What I found challenging about this project was understanding how this book was allowed to be banned. This book has been a really well-known book that has shaped many people's view on race. Books have a powerful way of delivering a message to an audience this audience happen to be young adults. These young adults could have had the opportunity to be exposed to a serious issue such as racial inequality.
Reading the book was the easiest part of this project because it was a book that captures the attention of the reader. I could not put the book down because of how captivating it was especially when it can to the trial. That is where the book unfolded the issue of racial inequality in a way that could have been expected and unexpected. I was quite comfortable making my film the reason being not showing my face. I decided that my film was going to be a promotion video of many books that have been banned across the U.S. I learned a lot from making that video because I was able to see how some books where banned for reasons that weren't worth banning. I was able to get critique from one of my peers on my dialectical journals. The feedback was helpful because I was then able to explain my thinking in a more efficient way. |
One thing that I would change about this project would be if as a class we could have been able to learn about the main reasons why many books were banned. For example, the most common reason why books were banned due to race or sexual content. |
