In this project, we were able to learn about the Renaissance and it's impact to modern day. Our final product was a writing piece that our character would have during the time period we chose. In addition, we got to select the character we wanted to be from the Renaissance period. There was a variety of options from politician to butchers in which students were able to create according to the Renaissance period. My character Mary, Queens of Scots who was the rival cousin of Queen Elizabeth. Along choosing our character we gave our class a presentation on the life of our character.
Reflection: The most challenging aspect of this project was attempting to write in the same style during the Renaissance. Personally, I wanted to make my artifact very real to the time period my character was born. It would have helped if we had read text in the similar style to get more exposure and be able to imitate it. I was able to receive to critique from my classmates to improve my writing piece. The feedback from one of my classmates was very specific that encouraged me to extend ideas and improve the word choice. In the end, I believe that my writing piece was presentable to exhibit during the exhibition. I am very proud of my writing piece because I believe that I was able to get into character and portray my character through my writing piece. The presentation of my writing piece was able to illustrate what I had envisioned since I was able to make it an aged paper. The exhibition was very interactive with the guest and parents. It was great being able to see how each student was able to present their character. I enjoyed being able to talk about and express my character’s ideas and beliefs at the exhibition. When interacting with guest, I was able to give them a knowledgeable explanation of my characters lifespan. My costume was able to display that I was a queen which then encouraged questions. Being able to learn more about each character instead of learning from presentations would be something I would change. I would find that it would improve our knowledge of the history and character aspect of the Renaissance. Reading about important characters in depth or Renaissance, in general, would give everyone a stronger background on the topic. I do feel confident on the lasting impact of the Renaissance, however, I would have liked more depth on characters.
