In this project, we began covering the quadratics unit for a total of thirty- five worksheets that allowed us to practice our learning. Initially, we started by working on finding the distance, velocity, and acceleration. Once we able to fully comprehend the assignments we moved one to work on distributing area which we would later use when converting the form of equations. We studied vertex form, standard form and factored form along with learning how to convert to each form. We decided to show our learning by creating a postcard that would apply to real life.
The purpose of the assignment was to utilize our learning of quadratics and implement them in real life. I decided to show how quadratics would be applied to bridges since it was something I had never thought of before. I found the equation to the bridge and decided to then derived it showing the steps along with the parabolas.
Reflection
Overall, I saw this unit to be interesting and enjoyable to learn about and that it is something that I enjoy working on. Although there were times in which I was challenged by the work I was able to ask questions until I fully understood what the question was asking. It was interesting how we had the chance to show our learning by applying it to real life showing that math can be applied to real world. A habit of a mathematician that I was able to apply to my work was Be confident patient and persistent. This is because working on deriving the equation was fairly simple but trying to show the graphs was difficult given that the scale was unusual. It would not allow me to zoom just enough for it to look similar to the bridge.
