In this project, we were able to make our cylinder roll back. Before, we had our teacher demonstrate her rolling cylinder and then we got to think of a way to make it as well. We had no guidance on how to make but to only think about ways.
Seeing Things Differently
Learning Objectives: Physics: You will explore light and how it travels through different media. You will understand mirrors and lenses and their effect on light, and how we can harness light, mirrors and lenses to develop new technologies to advance society in the future. Essential Questions: How does our understanding of light allow us to see things differently? Why is it important to see things through a different lens? What does it mean for something to be magnified and proportional? Final Products: Physics: In groups of three, you will design and build a scientific investigation tool that makes use of mirrors and lenses and could be used to see things differently. Your product could help see things that are very far away, ie space, very close, the microscopic world, or even underwater. The specific dimensions of the product will be clearly displayed in a scale blueprint that accompanies the final product. You will calculate the final magnification of your device and show an accurate ray diagram of how light is transformed through lenses or mirrors. Benchmarks: 1. Research questions - 10 questions to direct your research for your final product. You will select 5 questions to further investigate for your research notes. 2. Problems of the Week - three maths problems of the week written up throughout the unit. 3. Research notes - Use 5 of your research questions to guide an investigation. Use Cornell notes graphic organizer, including a summary of understanding, to present your work. 4. Initial product proposal and critique - an outline of your proposed tool, how it makes use of lenses and mirrors, what it is designed to do and a sketch of what it will look like. 5. Final product proposal and ray diagram - a detailed overview and blueprint of your tool and ray diagrams showing the impact of reflection and refraction on a ray of light passing through the machine. We will test the concept with elementary students. Final product: Working product that makes use of mirrors and lenses to aid in scientific investigation.

In this project we got to make an instrument with the help of Dr. Minces. We were able to learn about sound waves and how they travel.
